Journey along as Dave visits Chicago to walk with Garden Director, Chris Jarintoski, as he shows us around the varied gardens of the Chicago Botanic Garden. The garden strives to display plants in creative combinations that homeowners can take home and enjoy in their own backyards. In this visit you will explore the shady woodland and water gardens of Spider Island, the bold colorful displays in the Circle Garden and the dramatic Smith Fountain. After a visit to the Railroad Garden, complete with tiny replicas of famous American buildings crafted of natural materials, Dave and Chris ended their exploration on Evening Island in a bold prairie-style landscape surrounding the signature Carillon tower. Then Dave is off to the Island of Kauai, where a former sugar plantation has converted its crop from cane to growing fine estate coffees. Dave explored the plantation of Kauai Coffee with a special behind the scenes look at the entire process. From growing the trees, to pruning and harvesting, to the special "cupping" procedure that ensures the finest beans make it into coffee cups across the nation. New sustainable practices help Kauai Coffee be a good steward of the land that has been in cultivation since the early 1800's.
